Solar panels in the THORNICO group
When we build new production and logistics facilities within our group, we need to consider the green transition in the process. Read more about our investments in i.a. solar energy, here.
THORNICO seeks to establish a widespread and global commitment to responsible business practices in order to support the transparency and interconnectedness of its businesses all over the world. You can read more about THORNICO's commitments and development in the Company Karma Report.
"We have, together with our companies, introduced Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Karma related Key Performance Indicators (KPI) which we will measure and follow closely in the same period, towards 2023; 3 for each company the only general rule being that one of the KPIs has to relate to plastic and to how we can reduce the amount of plastic which we use as a group.
Everyone that has seen the awful pictures from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, an area around twice the size of Texas overfilled with plastic particles, micro or macro, above or below water or that has seen pictures of dead birds, turtles or whales filled with plastic inside their stomachs, for example, the young whale just found a couple of months ago with 88 pounds of plastic inside its stomach will know why this is important.
I myself have witnessed this around the world, for example, on the Western coast of Africa, in Ghana, with beaches so filled with garbage and plastic that the sand is nowhere to be seen.
We have got to act and although it is a very big and seemingly impossible task for a commercial company like THORNICO that although we own the majority of a company like Hartmann whose core product is 100% biodegradable, very environmentally friendly packaging, we still send out goods in plastic bags in other companies.
We can and have to do much better which is why we will follow up on our progress on an ongoing basis also in this our yearly CSR rapport."
Happy reading and good karma*
